LearnHub's existing teacher interface provided raw data dumps without meaningful insights, forcing educators to manually track patterns across spreadsheets. I conducted contextual inquiry sessions in 8 classrooms, shadowing teachers during their planning periods to understand their actual workflow and pain points.

The research revealed that teachers needed to quickly identify struggling students, track class-wide trends, and generate parent communication materials—often within a 45-minute planning period. I designed a layered dashboard that provided at-a-glance status indicators at the class level, with the ability to drill down into individual student performance.

The design featured a color-coded heat map showing assignment completion and performance across all classes, customizable alert thresholds for automatic notifications when students fell behind, and one-click report generation for parent-teacher conferences. I paid special attention to data visualization best practices, ensuring that the charts were immediately interpretable without requiring statistical expertise.

I prototyped multiple visualization approaches and tested them with 15 teachers across different grade levels and subjects. The final design used consistent visual language—red/yellow/green indicators paired with simple bar charts—that teachers found intuitive. The comparison view feature, which allowed teachers to see trends across different time periods or compare class performance, became one of the most-used features according to post-launch analytics.
